SOURASHTRA,MY MOTHER TONGUE!
Hey everyone.
I am a sourashtrian
I have written below some common situations which we would have come across in our life....
Ours Friends in schools /colleges , have friends of their own mother language, and when they are in their native place they speak their language with almost everyone. But the case is not so with us,we rarely get sourashtrian friends, even we get its hardly 3 or 4.I just can't imagine a situation where people in a class are all sourastrians...
As a sourashtrain who have come from Gujarat and settled in various parts of South India, its difficult to tell weather you belong to this side or that side.We all must have faced situations where people ask our mother tongue and we tell them that its "SOURASHTRA",and people are like what,is there a language like that?
But even against all this we love to called a sourashtrian ,RIGHT?
I was born in madurai, but then i never stayed there.Madurai is the only place where i could see loads of our people when compared to any other place.
Some people also call it as"SAURASHTRA"
Marathi is the major part our language.
I know Hindi and little of Tamil and Telugu..
Its slightly similar to hindi words, but its pronunciation differs widely.
As for water we say Pani(Its not Paani...as in hindi)and in Tamil pani means something else!
And i find it related to telugu also!
We say pillal for children, telugu people call it as pillalu!
I also had a Bengali friend of mine, where he told Rice ,they call it as bhath,i was like even we call it so!(Please Note: Even in Marathi its called Bhath because as i already told you, Marathi is a major part of our language)
Wow!I just love this language, because we can relate with so many languages and people.
